I'm trying to find a non-sanding filler for nail/screw holes with best color match to BB ply. I'm hoping someone here has had success doing this. I really do not want to keep buying multiple products trying for a decent match. So far what is available locally, that I've tried, is Minwax Wood Putty Natural Pine and Varathane Fill Stick Natural. I've tried blending the Minwax with their White, but haven't gotten too close. Also, I have ordered: Color Putty Light Birch and Natural colors, hoping for a closer match.

I make my own filler using dust I've collected with my ROS. I have containers of different species, colors, etc. When I need some filler I just throw the appropriate dust in a little cup, mix it with some wood glue, and fill away. If needed, I'll mix in some stain. Takes a little trial and error. Also depends on how particular you are with matching. As it'll never be absolutely perfect. But making your own is cheap. And I've found get's me a lot closer to the correct match than any off the shelf product.

Below is a link to a post I made about this topic previously. With a couple example images for illustrative purposes.

Your quest to find a filler that is going to "match" the prefinished panel is a big quest! Filler isn't going to have the same sheen as the finished product and most fillers and most wood changes color when finish is applied. I doubt you will find an off the shelf filler that is going to fill the holes and not be noticeable while matching the color of the finished wood.

Leveling the filler and not leaving residue around the hole can also be problematic leaving a different sheen than the surrounding panel and filler getting into the grain can be problematic to fully remove.

I think your best option might be to get some tints or dyes and try mixing or adjusting the color of whatever filler is close to the desired look. I suppose if you know someone locally who does a lot of wood finishing they might be able to color match for you for an hour or two worth of labor, but I would expect to pay them for their time.

Best of luck! I hope you find something that works.
