I have grown very frustrated Lowes. They are a couple miles closer to me than Home Depot, and 60miles further than my Menards store. But I am frustrate3d because I do like to shop there occasionally. But they (no matter what store I go to) will not honor competator coupons. I first try it with a Habor Freight and then they turned me down. So I deciede to prove my point and try a home depot coupon and a menards coupon all of these were for a percentage discount on my purchase. In each time I walked away without my items. (they really pissed me off) I tried it on various items from tools to lumber…and they will not honor it.
I complained to their costomer service and had a member of their management team from one of their stores call me. They explained that the item I was purchasing had to be an identical item…IE Brand, model and dimensions. My point to them is a 2×4 of construction grade at Lowes is a 2×4 of construction grade at Home Depot. The Lowes Company policy states: “We guarantee our everyday competitive prices. If you find a lower everyday price on an identical item at a local retail competitor, just bring us the competitor’s current ad, and we’ll beat their price by 10%. If a competitor is offering a percent off discount, we’ll match the final net price the competitor is offering. Our price guarantee does not apply to installation labor, to the competitor’s closeout, special order, discontinued, clearance, liquidation or to damaged items. Limited to reasonable quantities. ” “http://www.lowes.com/cdEveryday+Low+Prices787241445_” However I have found that their stores do not follow this policy. What other policies do their stores not follow?
i just recently purchased a bench grinder from lowes and they let me use the harbor freight coupon. This was in a Phila. PA lowes store and there is a harbor freight not far away. It all depends on the lowes management i guess.

I have used the HF coupon several times at the local Lowes with no problem. Even though I agree that it should be an identical item from the same manufacturer to get the matching price or discount I don’t think anyone will find the same stuff at Lowes that you can find at HF…but I don’t complain when I get the discount… Go to Home Depot and see if they honor your HF coupon.

Home Depot will honor it. But Lowes won’t even honor the Home Depot or Menards Coupons. This is very inconsistant with their company policy. They should have the same universal policy from store to store. I actually prefer to shop at Lowes, but they have left a very bad tast in my mouth.
Yeah, success with the HF coupon varies wildly. I’ve tried it three times at my Lowe’s and the first and third times it was accepted but the second time it was not.
As I know what I want when I enter these box stores I enjoy a good laugh on them when they bother to ask me what they can help me with. I answer in Russian and give them a typical Russian scowl and walk away. Works well. Besides like I want to hear one of these guys tell me “They don’t make those anymore.” Sure bub, so I bought one yesterday when did this happen? (Laughing)

Wait a minute here, am I hearing this right. I can use a HF coupon @ Lowe’s. What can I buy? Lets say I have a coupon from HF for a 4 pack of wood chisels for $4.99…Can I get a 4 pack of Stanley (a $20 value) for that same 4.99?
I’m new to this policy =)
Edit, okay Greg I see…......

I do shop at lowes but have a problem with their wood. Warp, bowed, kinked you name it. I have dug through an entire stack to find one good 1 X 6. Wish a better dealer was closer. However lowes does give a 10% discount to veterans. That helps me out a lot!
Of the big box stores, we only have 2 in our area, Lowes and Home Depot, plus a small HF store. Since Lowes opened here I was a constant customer, including getting all the materials there for a 1200 ft house extension, then later all the main Faucet sets, Appliances, Lighting and all manner of internal house items that the building contractor had me choose what I wanted. I did purchase them all from Lowes myself and was reimbursed by the contractor. By that time a HD had opened, I looked around it, but stayed loyal to Lowes for all my tool and materials needs ….........until I had a problem with an order, which turned out to be a knock out and drag experience, where the “manager” (a freckle faced little Hitler fresh out of low grade school) more or less told me I was fuc.ed. I was furious, told him to jamb his blue box sideways where the sun don’t shine, and said I would NEVER use the store again if that was the attitude a GOOD customer of many years was treated. The TIT then said, “that’s OK” Well true to my word, I have never entered or purchased a single thing from Lowes and I won’t. Considering they lost a good customer and regional or corporate never did inquire why I had ceased purchasing from them, just shows you how much customer care and relations is handled there.
Since, ALL my purchases have been from HD with no complaints, in fact they replaced a whole truckload (their big truck) of lumber they had cut wrong, and they did that in record time. I still shop at HF for the odds and end, but no power tools.
It could be a local area problem caused by local managers, so in one area a Lowes may be good and a HD be bad for you. HF seems to be the only one that is the same wherever you go …... now isn’t that sad?

I quit going to McDonalds for the same reason, showed up with an Arby’s coupon and they looked at me all funny. There closer than Taco Bell but Wendy’s is about 20 minutes farther, sucks because I really like McDonalds. I don’t understand, fast food is fast food. :>O
Don’t get mad, I’m just (trying to) being funny… No Malice intended. :)
I think its an individual store thing. I’ve used HF coupons at some of the Lowes around me and some of the HD’s. In my area, there are at least 4 Lowes within 30 minutes of me and even more HD’s. Within some of the stores, it depends on who the manager is that day.
As far as the people who work at big box stores knowing what they are doing, I find Lowes to be the worst, then Home Depot, and Menards creeps to the top. With that said I can totally relate to Brian’s post.
