Hey All, I have a Stanley #6 for sale. This is a duplicate plane for me, so no sense in having it hang around and gathering dust. Hopefully someone out there can use this and put it to work.
The plane was in pretty decent shape when I got it. It had no major rust at all; light surface rust in spots and that’s it. You can see it in the pics. The tote and knob were in nice condition only had some little paint splatters on them. Here is what I did to clean it up:
Took entire plane apart down to the last bolt.
I did not paint the sole or frog. I figured as a user, it really doesn’t need it and if desired, the new owner could use whatever paint they choose. All the hard work has been done on this plane and it is ready to use as is. After it was cleaned and put back together, I made some shavings on a board so you can see that it works. It was set pretty light and was getting smoothing plane type shavings on a piece of pine. I am unsure of the age, there are pictures below with the markings to help you identify it. The sole and sides were not lapped (I wouldn’t do a #6 that way anyway). You can see there is some discoloration on the sole, but there is zero pitting or rust. The only defect I see on this is on the left side there are a couple of small divots near the top. I don’t know what they are from, getting bumped in a tool box maybe? They are not from rust as this was clear of rust on the sides and sole. They are not deep and should lap out easily enough if so desired. You can see that in a pic below. It has beautiful rosewood tote and knob on it and they are pretty shiny after being cleaned up. It is definitely a nice user and will serve someone very well. I packaged it in lots of bubble wrap and made a cardboard cover for it to ship in. The plane was disassembled for shipping. It will have to be put back together. That should help it get from me to you without being damaged. After seeing the broken planes here on LJ, I highly suggest insurance. It is packaged nicely, but you never know.
Cost for this plane is $70.00 plus shipping. The package weighs eight pounds so you can determine shipping to your area. Contact me by PM if you are interested. I accept Paypal or we can arrange an alternate payment method if you don’t have Paypal.
