Useful Tool at a Reasonable Price

Useful Tool at a Reasonable Price

I will preface this by saying that this is my first power sander so I have nothing to compare it to directly, and although I have minimal experience with woodworking power tools, I have many years of daily use of other types power tools under my belt, and don’t have much tolerance for junk. I purchased this item about seven months ago, and up until last week had not given it much of a workout. I had sanded perhaps a total of 100 square feet of pine lumber surface with it. The resul...

Incredibly Straight, Incredible Value.

Incredibly Straight, Incredible Value.

Well, the title just about says it all. I’ve been getting more in to hand tools (seems we all are) lately and the construction grade level and HD 12” combo square were just no longer straight enough. I needed an actually straight reference edge that I could trust and to be honest, was a bit skeptical of the price on these (~ $20 Shipped). After getting it, I can say I would highly recommend it. It’s the straightest tool in my little shop and gives me the confidence I nee...

Save your time and get the real thing

On the Woodcraft website, this blade is branded Pinnacle, which is Woodcraft’s house brand, but it’s made by IBC and the blade has “IBC” printed on it. Apparently IBC used to make blades for Veritas, but they’ve recently started making planes under their own brand, and Woodcraft is making a marketing push for their new Pinnacle/IBC blades. This particular blade can be used in the Veritas bevel-up jointer, jack, and smoother. I bought this blade because I was a...

Smooth Square, Great Price

Smooth Square, Great Price

not much to say. good square, and can be had for a bargain price. I was using Empire combo squares (12” and 6”) since they were cheap (less than $10 each) at HD. I found them to be as precise as the next square, but the locking and the sliding of the ruler left a lot to be desired. I eventually replaced them both with Starrett equivalent which I found to be as precise, but made of heavier materials, and with higher precision in the machining which means smoother sliding action,...

Deal on Ridgid BS1400 14" Band Saw

Deal on Ridgid BS1400 14" Band Saw

05-02-2010 06:59 AM by Juansnapon | 13 comments »

I just picked up the Ridgid 14” Band Saw for $184, Home Depot has them on special in there lower volume stores. 20 minutes away another HD had the same drill press for $369 at a higher volume store so make sure you keep your eyes open for good deals at the HD. Once they sell out of the smaller store they will not get them back anymore so don’t miss out. Remeber HD will take competitor coupons like Harbor Fright tools 20% coupons too. Other than a little vibration in the table that can...

Don't Eat this cookie,

I just got a set of these, and I was pretty surprised. I was a little hesitant to shell out $11 bucks for a glorified piece of wood but they work pretty good. They really remind me of a router mat that I bought a few years ago, they have the same type of non slip surface. You could probably make some from those drawer liners or non slip rug liners. But for me as busy as I am I would rather just buy them and keep going then stop and make them. Pretty cool though, I have to admit I will pr...

Super customer service

Super customer service

I just have to rant (in a very good way) about Ridgid’s customer service. I have a 1998 Ridgid table saw, Mod. TS2412. Before I became the Proud? owner, it was involved in an accident and fell out of a moving truck. In the accident, the spacer, the piece with the two 5/8 pins that the motor mounts on was destroyed. Some one that thought they were a welder tried to make a new one. As a result, when you try to cut an angle, the motor has to rise above the CI bed. It contacts the out feed ...

Freud Jointer knives = POOP

Freud Jointer knives = POOP

These blades are so dull, I couldn’t even cut my finger with these. I contacted Freud directly about it and all I received was “thats our blades thats how they come. If you don’t like it you should return them to where you bought them. We don’t get any complaints about our blades” Umm YES you do get complaints because I was complaining with him right then. The dull blades I am replacing are sharper than these brand new Freud blades and Freud has ZERO concer...
