Pine Double Bed

We have some guests coming to stay in March, and so the wife wanted a double bed to replace the davenport we previously used as the guest “bed”. Since there was already a Pine desk and shelves in the room a pine bed was of course the natural choice.

The head board is made with tongue and grove pine flooring, which floats between the upper and lower rails, too allow for expansion. The post are book-matched, laminated, since I could not find the right size post in pine. The bed rails are attached with your standard bed hardware to allow it to come apart into four pieces. The bed rails are also recessed in routed groves to hide the hardware.

As for finishes we can’t decided on what to do so we have left it unfinished for now. It should not get a lot of where as a guest bed so I figure we can do it at any time. Personally I am liking the natural look, but mostly because I hate staining soft woods.

Build Time: 10 hrs
Cost: $84

Good construction. There are ways to seal the wood to avoid blotchy spots. I try not to stain or paint anything either. Sometimes you have to.

Very nice. I really appreciate you putting the build time in. I’ve been considering making a similar bed for my daughter. If I double your time and put the hour estimate at 20, I should be good!

I recently made a skateboard rack for my nephew out of pine and finished it with a walnut Danish oil. Looks pretty cool and would look good with that dark floor.
