My 9-year-old son was recently competing in the Pinewood Derby and carrying the car in a cardboard box just wasn’t cutting it! When I looked online, I found a wooden carrier kit, that while it looked good, was not as good as I thought that it could be. So I designed my own and added my custom touches to it. Needless to say, my son was impressed (which is what I was after anyway)! It is made from 1/2” thick pine that I bought from Lowes. I used a Dremel tool to route his first name on the front and a tribal design and his last name on the back. Those were painted with iridescent blue paint (he likes blue). When the carrier is opened, it transforms into a “showroom”, with a painted checkered floor, with a small lift, that can be rotated.

My son’s car, “Wildfire”, ran three runs against his fellow den mates and beat them every round! At the end of the night, there was a runoff among all of the winning cars. Wildfire, finally was defeated in the championship round, finishing second overall.

Great carrier, he will be the envy of the others that is a
very unprofessional looking box.
The other Dads Will have a long way to catch up.

:-) Great idea to keep Dad’s out their sons’ way while they build their cars. Smokin’ car Brenden. Congratulations on second place, must roll as fast as it looks. Not a bad looking box either Dad.

Very cool car carrier! Great design and like the added touches of the checkered floor and the name. Very lucky kid!
