I alway hated this old saw. I guess its not her fault, it was just never tuned up right or rested on a solid surface. Vibrated like hell, blade drift and always bogged down.
After pricing used 14” models, i decided to take a closer look at this one and see what could be done.
The base was made from scrap 3/4” ply. Motor is mounted on a HD door hinge and the weight keeps tension on belt. Guides were replaced, thrust bearings, belt, and pulleys.
Took me a while to figure out how pulleys work (Thanks Rick M!)
Base is filled with 50lbs of play sand. Casters, old vaccum cord, some paint and i couldnt believe how nice it cuts! Very nice little saw. Its like brand new. :)
Just have to make a little door, and rivet the original name plates.
I searched for other posts of people that have buld similar designs. Posting this one to help the next person with ideas.

Nice save on that saw.
Something else I noticed as I clicked thru your pictures was your verticle file cabinets. I was offered 12 of those about 8 years ago. Decided I’d probably never have a GOOD use for them so I passed on them because I didnt want to store them “just in case” I ever figured out a use. (I already have a shop full of “STUFF” that I store for “just in case” ...)
Looking at that bank of them in your shop, I wish I woulda took ‘em now :-)

In another 50 years that thing might still be running! It’s a shame they don’t make em like that anymore…
