I am currently working inside a room in our house. It is an old victorian farmhouse we are renovating. Since I work mainly with hand tools I do not need a lot of room. I am planning to move to another building in the near future. It is kind of a chicken an egg thing. I need to build about 100 linear feet of floor to ceiling bookcases before I can empty my future workshop of all the boxes full of books.. (we have many many books..). Once I am done, we move all the books out of the red workshop building and I get to redo the floor (its old boards with some warped, and some broken. ) and finally move in a dedicated space.

That building looks like it should make a very nice shop when you’re done. Keep us posted.

I can see a lot of potential in the workshop building. It looks to be spacious, the windows will let in natural light and you will have plenty of storage there as well. I am looking forward to seeing your updated shop space.

I have two barns painted that exact same color. Man I hate that color. But I do like my shop that is in one of those barns. Good luck….......

What would you guys use for the floor ? This barn is sitting on joists that are on top of concrete pillars. On top of the joist, 1×6 were nailed. It is a little weak and most of them are buckled. Some of them split. The joists are in good shape and as far as i can tell have not sagged. I am thinking of ripping off the planks and putting a sub floor of construction grade plywood. Would that work or bow over time ?

Well, I sure do hope that it all goes well. That barn will make a nice shop building once you get it fixed up.

This looks like a fun project. I always thought an old barn would make a neat shop. Lots of luck and have fun. Keep us posted. This would be a neat project to follow your progress.

Would really like to have that red barn for a shop. I’m envious of you. That will make a great shop. Enjoy
