I keep breaking by good cameras (shop not a good environment). Then I crashed my computer. After waiting almost 2 weeks for a recovery disk. I think I have things going again. I also replace one of the camera.

]]> Sat, 24 Oct 2009 12:36:40 GMT http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11547 Chris Davis Chris Davis Your Not So Ordinary Platform #2: The Platform http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11447 The platform is a four leg design. The legs are 6 1/2” high with a 4 1/2” runner in between them. The legs are attached permanently to the footboard with 3 dowels and 2 pocket screws. The side rail runner is connected to the legs by a draw bolt and a half moon type connector. Two of these type of connectors in each corner along with a single dowel.

Even though this is a full size the platform is 70” overall wide. There will be bookcases that will sit on the platform and run along the side of the bed.

]]> Sat, 17 Oct 2009 12:38:40 GMT http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11447 Chris Davis Chris Davis Your Not So Ordinary Platform #1: The Plan http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11433 I will be making two platform beds for a single client. One will have a very large headboard and the other will not. Both will have a set of cabinets lining the side. This is what’s not so ordinary for platform bed. These cabinets will set on top of the platform. So for a full size bed I’ll be making this one about 75”wide.

This platform will have a ledge around the mattress extending about 2 ½”. It will also e a 4 post design with all inner edges curved inward a little.

The finish will be painted on one and a cappuccino finish on the other.

Another thing that is not so ordinary is the platform with the headboard will contain a refrigerator in the side of the headboard.

Watch this being built. I should already have some recorded videos at the bottom of the screen. Sorry the video quality is low. I am haveing computer issues and had to take it down. Also the audio may be missing on some of the videos.

All parts cut, banded, edges cleaned up and panels processed. I have all but trim building completed on the beds and haven’t started on the bookcases yet. I plan on getting this completely finished today. Luckly I don’t have to stain and apply a finish. It is shipping unfinished.

]]> Sat, 03 Oct 2009 12:07:26 GMT http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11222 Chris Davis Chris Davis Murphy wall bed Build http://lumberjocks.com/wwbeds/blog/11201 Today I’ll be building a pair of murphy wall with a bookcase separating them. This will be the version I call the Hudson Bay. It is our simple Alpine with some molding added to the face. I use a stock molding found at a local hardwood supplier. They will be built unfinished in maple. The customer will finish it themselves.

The bookcase I plan on making it a little shorter and a little shallower in depth then the two murphy beds. I am doing this so that the crown molding will work without having one large piece.
