Boat Bed #2: Headboard and siderails

I didn’t make as much progress as I wanted on my boat bed. Trying to get a few other bed ready to ship has slowed me down a little. I did get the headboard and side rails finished.

The head board is design that I usually reserve for my painted version but I decided to start using it on the oak and maple versions also. It is basically a bookcase headboard with the sides slanted back a little. I cut port holes in the sides and smaller holes across the top. I built it with removable legs so that it will be less likely to get damaged during shipping. The legs are connected by dowels and pocket screws.

The side rails were changed up also on this project. The customer wanted port holes. I make the side rails 1 ½” thick by sandwiching two piece of ¾” material together. On the outside piece I cut the 4” holes required for the port hole. I will cover those with chrome port hole mirror that I purchased.
