I have to think hard because its been 5 years since I built the benches. I believe at the time I wanted them to be comfortable for sitting at. I'm not disabled, but I do get tired standing on concrete for hours on end. Ultimately I don't actually end up sitting at them very often. The biggest and first bench I built is really way to big. Some day I'd like to replace it with a split top roubo. The miter station still works well and the storage underneath has worked out very well. I do wish I had a home for my mortiser though. it sits on the end of the planer table which is also using up way too much space. The storage underneath proved very hard to use, so it's just dead space. Some day I will probably redo that one as well.

Question for you. I notice most of your workbenches are built at what seems like a low level, being bound to a wheelchair myself I have to lower everything down quite a bit so I can safely work. are you also in the physically disabled genre or do you just like to work seated? i'm gonna jack some of your designs when I put my shop together cuz you've got some that I like.
