« Part 1: my new shop Part 2 of my new shop series Part 3: the next step »

so yesterday I spent for the most part all day turning a nasty garage into my new shop. I have 30 days to get it ready for my move. Apperently the previous tenent housed an animal in that garage, and it did his business all along one side of it. I removed all the bad sheet rock and replaced it with new.

Maybe we should go back alittle. We me wifey and I live on the meger side. I spent 22 years working in kitchens, running them for most of that. Mostly private country clubs. I made really good money. Not any more. Money isn’t everything as I found out. 5 years ago we left the kitchen and I took a job working as a cabinet makers kick around. I learned alot. For one thing how nice it is to be a husband and a father, to be able to see my sons football games, parent teacher things, you know, the fun stuff. I first started building things when I was 6 or 7 years old, tree forts, bike jumps, ect. We do everything by the budget.

Ok back to My new shop

Having scraped some sheet rock from the mgmt co that we are renting from, and who we are friends with I fix the wall. Then came the cleaning of it. Let me just say that I really wish that I had had a mask, sheet rock dust, concrete dust and very very old as dust dog poop in the nose… yeah not so much. I think I said it before but I will say it again. Why do some people have to use the biggest darn nails and why would anyone use flat head screws. I know I know so they can’t come out. So the walls are clean, I ‘ve removed the very old garage door opener that doesn’t work and the floors are swept, now we get to paint! My “dukes mixture,” as named by me wifey, actually turned out alright. It not quite white and its not quite celing paint but it all seemed to be latex water based. Two coats of paint and about 10 hour later I am now at the next step. I don’t think that I will get to do anything next weekend, I get to work in my old shop finishing cedar planter boxes so that way I can use all my lumber rather than having to move it. (let me just say what I have on hand (scrap from my work as a wood garage door builder) is alot!) That that.
