I am 51 years old. I have lived and grown up in and around the Peoria area all my life. Married and two kids. I am employed at the local mass transit after losing my job of 291/2 years in 2006. Would love to be retired and do woodworking/ home improvement projects. We brought an older home in 2007 that was occupied by a very elderly couple so the house needed and still needs a lot of updating/ maintenance.
I inherited an 80's model Craftsman 9" table saw from my father-in-law. Then I started a shelfing project in the garage. Me and wood never got along, I turned a wrench for a living. I discovered after the sleves, hey, I kind of like working with wood! The project was simple and looks a little crude but it was cool. So that got the ball rolling.
I am a newbie (Wood Rookie= Wookie). You guys at LJs seem very patient with beginners and have soooo many good ideas I had to sign up.
After Two months of debate, I bought a new table saw. It is a Bosch 4000. I got on closeout for $375 from the local Woodworkers Shop. Set it up on 12/22. Ripped a 1x4x8 piece of pine to 1 1/2" with less than 1/64 of differance one end to the other. I needed portability and I think it will do me fine. I was also looking at a Jet Proshop. Now I see Grizzly has a Shop Fox for $449, something new. Well That is about it for now. Glad to be a member and really look foward to communicating with all you guys. Oh by the way, I have a shop if I back mama's car out!

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This is a great place to get – or give – advice about woodworking on the forums and the project posts are a wonderful source of new ideas. I look forward to seeing your projects and posts.
To get the most feedback on your projects, it’s best only post 1 or 2 at a time. This way you will get feedback over several days and from a wide variety of members.
Please enjoy your membership.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. It is better to go slow and accurate, than fast and mess up, even though we do learn from our mistakes. But still better to go slow, than to hurt yourself. And yes I do agree with ND2ELK this site is very addictive, since finding this site I’m on here every morning with my morning cup of Joe.. My wife thinks im crazy because I go to bed brfore the chickens, and get up before the roosters, but the best thing she supports me in keeping busy..
God Bless and keep up the craft.
