Today i fancied having a go at cutting some dovetails, I used some scrap oak that i had around the shop. The dimensions of the wood i used is 7’’ by 4’’ 1/2 by 3/4’’. I am quite happy with the result but i can see room for improvement.

I was asked to make this project as a present for my uncle. The wood i used is sapele and the dimensions are 6” 1/2 by 5” 1/2 by 6” 3/4. I finished this project with 3 coats of finishing oil and a coat of beeswax, buffed to a high finish. I was very happy with how the finish came out as i have never used beeswax before.

Bandsawn Box: Second Attempt

This is my second attempt at a bandsawn box and this time I focused on making the joints and finish as neat as possible. This box is made out of a walnut off cut. The dimensions are about 3 3/4 inch cubed. It is finished with a few coats of finishing oil with has really brought out the end-grain. However, one of my main aims was to ensure the joints were perfectly flush, although i am happy with what i have done, it still could be neater.

My first bandsawn box

This is my first attempt at a bandsawn box. I made it out of tulipwood, an off-cut piece that I wanted to put to some use. The dimensions are around 1 3/4 high, 3 1/4 wide and 6 inches in length. I finished it with some finishing oil to highlight the grain, as my main objective in the project was to line up the grain pattern exactly so it looked like a solid block. I got the idea from looking around the LJ website and other similar sites. I am quite happy with it as a first attempt but I can see room for improvement. With the skills and experience I have acquired completing it I will try something a little more challenging next time.
