New Garrage-workshop after week #18

Well it has been 55 days ago since the last update of my garrage-workshop construction progress. I visited it on Apr 30th when I went to my hometown to fetch my son. I had about an hour or so and managed to take a photo from the outside. At that time the plumber was hacking & drilling – making deafening noises and dust that did not really permit to take photo from inside.
Here is the pic:-

As I mentioned before, this project is way behind time. But what can I expect from one man show.
Thank you for viewing.

Learning to apply Danish Oil on small project - Scraper Holder

Today (night in my country), I post a question on how to apply Danish Oil, an oil finish that I never had chance to use before. Furtunately a newly opened ACE Hardware Store is just 5 minute drive from my home. So I managed to get a can of Danish Oil and also a can of BLO.
With the support and guides from many fellow LJs, I’ve more confident to try it now, eventhough I’ve been frequently reading books on finishing that covers from oil finishes to water base finishes but as I said in my forum post, I’m a slow learner (from book).

Thanks to Charlie M, Bigwoodturner, Scott Bryan and Randy for your answers, tips & explanations, and to those reading my post.

I have only one very small project to try out this oil finish, ie a scraper holder made from pallete board. I guess it is from pine (correct me if I’m wrong). Inspired by Julian’s version I made this scraper holder with slight modification. So here it is;
Picture 1: The main body is taking shape

Picture 2 and 3: Completed but Unfinished (back view and front view).

Picture 4 : First Coat of Danish Oil (approximately after 45 minutes ago).

I hope I may be able to put three more coats tomorrow then I will apply paste wax and hand-buff it.

Two doors Wall/Hanging Cabinet

This is “honey build this” project or more cynically “you have all the tools, can’t you make this one?”...project.
So I just measured the available space in the kitchen and started cutting the boards, without any Bill of Materials or a Cutlist. I did not start with any drawing or specific design, too straighfoward. The design and all the measurements were in my head. The first thing I built was the cabinet doors and then the cabinet box sides (left & right).

Day #1 progress : Two Glass Panel Frame doors and Two Frame n’ Panel cabinet’s sides

Day #3 progress : Completed the top & bottom and the back carcas frame (1/8” plywood flush) not in the picture.

Gay #4 progress : Dry fitting…it was taking shape. I had a little problem, one of the door frame twisted (cupped & bent) making it diognally not aligned – about 3/16” proud out from the cabinet box.

i

I have to straighten the door by clamping/weight press to correct the twist before I can assemble it. It may take about five to seven days.

Today I got tight schedule – send my car to the car workshop (it didn’t start), go to bank, pay bills but I still have time to do some cooking…..”You smell what I’m cookin…?” Its fried prawn mixed with ground chilli and onion. We called it ”Sambal Tumis Udang”

Bye….I’m having my breakfast cum lunch now…while checking new posts, new members here in LJs….yumy yumy….

New Garrage-Workshop under construction.

Well, it has been about 8 years I’ve been visualising my proper shop in my dream. And now I saw light at the end of pitch dark tunnel; my dream has almost sure to come true. It is a 2 car garrage and a shop in one building with total gross built-up is about 576 sqf (excluding a small bedroom on the first floor).

It’s located in my hometown Malacca, about 130km from my present home. So I cannot record the progress too frequent.

The construction work started in early January 2009, so here are the pictures I managed to take so far after 28 days of the ground breaking.
