So we got a nice new 37” LCD TV back in December (yes we finally stepped into the 21st century) and right now have it sitting on an old dresser that my wife found on the side of the road. We tweaked it just a little bit on the outside to use it as an “entertainment center” which meant taking out a drawer and drilling a small hole in the back for the wires and that’s about it. I believe it to be black walnut and it’s decent construction (dovetailed drawers) so we’d like to re-use it in the future for it’s intended use. Anyways, with the soon to be birth of our second daughter (October 2012), we now need to convert the third bedroom from a computer/library room to an actual room. That means moving the computer desk and plethora of books out to… where? So, this is where the center comes into play. I found a plan my wife and I both like and tweaked it a bit to fit all our books with room for other storage (kids games, scrapbooking stuff, etc.). It’s based on the flat screen media center from Woodsmith (issue #180). With a little tweaking in SketchUp, I’ll be good to go.

The only other major project prior to this was the crib I built for our first daughter. This will be a good test of new skills – case building, face frames, doors and drawers, and overall large construction/assembly! Here goes!!
