I have been reading all the reviews I can find on powered respirators. I have found four that look interesting to me. (Aircap 2, JSP Powercap, Triton, & Trend) I wish some woodworking mag would do a side by side compairson of the four so I would have a better idea of what to order. If any LJ’s have used any of them and not writen a review I would like to hear what you think.

Hi Woodsmith – thanks for asking because I am very much interested in the answer since I have been ordered to get one. I run my planer and jointer with the garage door closed to prevent noise pollution and I end up breathing in the dust, which is bad for me.

I was wondering since you have done some research what brand/model has cuaght your attention and why. I hope others post their comments on this type of equipment – Tomas.

I have tried the Trend and found it to be too clunky and bulky. You can’t wear ear muffs with it.

I looked at the Triton but they seem to take bulky to the next level.

I have not tried the others you mentioned, but Dick Cain a fellow lumberjock reviewed one sold by Rockler.

I have it now and I like it. You can wear glasses and ear muffs with it. The silicon mask id soft and fits well.

At less than $65 it’s about 1/4 the price of the other 2.

I have the Triton, it works but is bulky.
If I was doing it again, I would look at the one reviewed by Dick from Rockler.

I have used the Triton for a couple of years now. It is bulky, but I like it. I find it much easier to breathe with it than others that I’ve tried – I don’t have that closed in feeling that I have experienced with masks that just cover the nose/mouth area. It also offers additional full face protection – but that is something that would be more beneficial for turners. Bottom line – these respirators are very personal items and you won’t know what works best for your particular case until you try it. My suggestion is to order one from a source that will allow you to return it if you don’t like it.

I don’t think I would like the one sold by Rocker although the price is right and I like the idea of batteries on the belt. The Triton looks bulky but has a more open look. The Trend with the hose coming from the belt looks like it could get in the way. The other two are only sold in UK so far as I can tell. I think I want full face protection. I will keep trying to make up my mind. I wish the local hardware store had them in stock so I could pick them up and look at them. I hate having to return items. But that may be what I have to do.
Thanks LJ’s for your thoughts!

The Trition has the hose to the belt not the Trend.

I like mine from Rockler, & i’m sure glad Gary likes it.

When I recommend something to others, it’s kind of a scary, hoping you did the right thing.

My respirator isn’t working to well right now. I left my battery pack on, & drove to the post office one day.

Shortly after I was going to use my respirator, & I couldn’t find the battery pack, & then I remembered what

happened. It must have fallen off into the snow when exiting the car.

I’ll have to make myself a battery pack, because Rockler doesn’t have parts for it.

I have the Trend one, and find it ecellent. Big, Bulky, and expensive, but very effective, and the face shield is a fine eye saver.

Great when using the lathe or MBF
