Auger handle restoration #2: About a blank

Trying to source hickory in the dimensions I need for a turning blank were more difficult than I anticipated. I looked in to bat billets but found them extremely expensive. I even looked into large hand tool handles, like sledge hammers and such. I could have made them work but there would be very small waste margin and seemed like more work than it was worth. I found 8/4 hickory dowels online but minimum orders and shipping were out of the question. I knew the best thing would be to just go to the hardwood store and handpick some clear straight grained material. I decided to get just a little more than I needed for this project.
