Tips for Mobile Bases - 14 replies

There are many different ways to make mobile bases. From the design, based on strength for heavy work benches to lighter duty utility style type bases. I read a lot of posts about going all mobile in shops. Pro’s and con’s for both sides of this as well as some built in and some mobile. In a recent discussion over breakfast a bud...

Hand Chisel Set Upgrade - 26 replies

Have a friend that I have done a few favors for as of late that wants to get me a tool / tools. In looking through the shop one of the things that caught my eye was my set of HF chisels. Cheap I know but I sharpened them and they work. Not wanting the guy to blow a chunk of change I would like to keep this under $100. I found this set and ha...

Drawer pulls - 11 replies

For a base cabinet for the shop that has 24 inch wide drawers what kind of drawer pulls have you found work well. I have generally used drop down pulls to avoid catching cords and such but with a tablesaw mounted to the top I am sure these would rattle and make all kinds of noise. A cabinet I hold hardware in that is 28 inches wide has 6 inch ...

Table saw base cabinet - 7 replies

Currently I am in the design phase of making a cabinet base to mount two contractors saws bolted together on. This will give me the same footprint as I currently have with a single unit but gives me an all cast iron top as well as the extra saw. The extra saw will be set up to do dado’s for finger joints while allowing all other cuts to ...

Metric only measuring tools source in USA - 16 replies

Anyone have a decent priced source for metric only combination square or maybe a carpenters square. The price here in the states makes me want to take a 1st class trip overseas to go shopping where I can get them for less than $150 a hit. Thanks for any feedback.

12 inch Grizzly Sander switch Modification - 3 replies

Recently I installed a new paddle type switch on my tablesaw. Looking at the old switch I liked it but the paddle switch like others have noted seemed safer for the TS. However the 12” Grizzly sander switch is on the back. That is you reach over the running sander to turn it off. 120 grit removes skin rapidly. Someone with medical tra...

Sink idea - 10 replies

Currently the drop sink in my shop is a cheap (as in free) plastic one that after 20 years of use looks like it needs a makeover. Okay so does the cabinet that it sits in as well. In planning out a new cabinet I am looking for a less expensive alternative than the stainless steel version at $250 and up. Found this at the box and thought with ...

Drill Press modification? - 11 replies

Someone has offered me a 14” drill press that has had the base cut off. Have no idea why they did this but they still had the base. My question is can this be cut further to make it into a bench top version? If so what would be suggested to do so? If not, good thanks for saving me time and effort on a fruitless project. While I would ...

Unbelievable - 39 replies

My neighbor called me this afternoon and asked could I drop by his friends house to figure out what was wrong with his new Tablesaw. Sure, no problem probably just a adjustment I think. I arrived and the guy is ready to drag this nice new JET contractors saw with a chain down the street. Cant be sure but I thought I saw smoke coming from his ...

For those wanting to add 220 svc or expand existing svc in shop - 32 replies

Yesterday my neighbor calls me in a panic to tell me how his breaker box caught on fire and wanted me to come up and see about getting a new one installed. As you can see from the picture the box got HOT, Chernobyl hot people! Those that work with electricity can tell immediately what was wrong, for those that do not allow me to expla...

Benchtop Drill Press suggestions - 9 replies

I have a friend that would like to purchase my older model Delta Bench-top Drill press which got me considering if I wish to upgrade. While I do have a Jet floor model Drill press I have liked having my bench-top set with a pilot hole bit. My only real gripe is the table does not have a crank to raise and lower it. Merely pull up and down and...

Men are Deep thinkers - 8 replies

I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking. My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing, and I said ‘nothing’.The reason I said ‘nothing’ instead of saying ‘just thinking’ is because she then woul...

Quick release for JET drill press depth adjuster - 0 replies

Anyone know if a quick release for the drill depth adjuster is available for a JET 14” floor model? Turning two nuts that want to jamb gets old when you have to change depth alot.

Came across a excellent find, FREE - 8 replies

Always looking for ways to store more stuff in a smaller space I was given 5 cabinets, 4 drawers each, roller bearing drawer slides, and full of nuts, bolts, washers, etc etc. The only wood in this project was making the bases for the cabinets and putting them on wheels. It is like having a mini hardware store in the shop. LOL!

Good 10" sawblade buy - 5 replies

I found a 2 pack of sawblades by DeWalt at Lowes today for under 34 USD. They are only general purpose blades, one is 32T the other 60T. Tried them out ripping some 2×4’s for louvers for four doors I am making and the 32T worked great in the tablesaw. For those that are like me and dabble in a little of everything this is economi...

Iraq Humor - 5 replies

Having been asked by several members to post some humor from Iraq here are some quotes made by me over the radio during my time in the desert. Read and enjoy. 1. For the love of Moses and all the prophets what are you doing? Talking them to death? 2. To the idiot that is showing a white t-shirt on a stick. If you do not put that away ...

Who is at the door ringing the bell while I am working - 11 replies

Have you ever heard the doorbell ring late at night, or during the day, stopped what you were doing to walk to the door to be confronted by a nosy neighbor, salesperson, or general pest? With today’s technology for less than $100 you can get a camera and a cheap T.V. and then see who is at the door. But why stop at just ignoring this invasion...

Source for Replacment Lathe Motor - 6 replies

My Father recently gave me a JET1014 mini lathe which had sat dormant since 2002, made in 2001. Having replaced the capacitor it still spins slow if at all. For giggles I took it apart and blew it out, no corrosion was seen and nothing came out. As it is a second lathe I have no immediate need for a replacement but am hoping somone knows some...
