woodbutcher,
thanks so much for your comments about the mantel & niche. it inspired me to visit this site for the first time in about six months. i hav taken a few months off from woodworking, exercising the mind playing duplicate bridge, but i am going to remodel the kitchen soon enough and there hopefully will be some decent cabinets coming out of my little shop.
thanks again,
lar

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless

I was a little skeptical at first but it worked awesome. i thought the felt would peel off…it did get pretty dirty though but i just blew it off with the air hose and it was good as new. Im glad you liked it thanks for the comment.

on your one post you talked about tung oil/ mineral spirts/oil varish.
havent seen too many people using this. i tired of other finishes.
and have made this for the most part the only finish i use.
i still use shellac for color or sanding sealer.
i use a 1:1:1 like you do cut 50% with ms for sanding sealer and to penetrate wood.
i use several ratios and finish with 1:1:6 the 6 being varnish.
i am doing mostly household trim windows, doors and door jams.
i like to use pure turp. insteed of ms by the wife complains about the turp.
just curious what other ratios you use.
