TEA BOX

Here’s a TEA BOX I made for a friend to keep tea bags in. Is it extravagant for tea? Yeah, probably, but it ain’t about the contents; it’s about the box.

The box is mahogany, the veneered top is quilted curly maple (I think….. it’s been a while since I made this), and the handles, feet, and splines are macassar ebony. The dividers inside are poplar. I veneered the inside bottom with cork, in case any liquid might splash in (don’t ask me, man …. I don’t know what I was thinking then).

There is no stain on anything, and I believe it’s a Waterlox finish, although, once again, I don’t remember.

Hardware: two barrel hinges, and a recessed lid stay.

I really enjoyed this project, and was pleased with the results.
