So, I’m hanging out with a friend over drinks and we get to talking about his kitchen cabinet situation. You see, his microwave crapped out and he want to get a new one. He’d like to install it over his stove, but he needs a shorter cabinet to in place of the one that is there to fill in the leftover space. Replacing it would be easy if he could find the exact cabinet in the right size and color. Soooo…it’s not that easy. Since I was several beverages in and since I’m a nice guy (read sadist) I offered my assistance. I’ve never built a cabinet before, so this is going to be a blog about the trial and tribulations of this little project.

Bill, I have found that the best way to learn something is to simply dive in and do it. I have always said that often we look for reasons that are perceived to be an “impediment” to building a project rather than simply looking for ways around these obstacles. It sounds like you are off to a good start in that at least you have made the mental commitment.

Hang in there! The best projects are those done with/for friends. Anyway, look at what you will learn. Who knows? When your done, he might like to redo the rest of the kitchen and enlist your “expertise.” Best of luck and keep us posted. I am interested in doing a similar project and have also never built a cabinet.
