This is a 5 board bench that is a 9 board bench. The legs are two pieces of walnut doweled together and the top is three pieces of maple. The floors in my home are maple that was grown and milled locally with a mixture of birdseye tiger and everything in between. I like the way it looks so I used tiger maple on the sides and birdseye in the center. The top is screwed on from the bottom using glued blocks to the rails. Sanded down to 220 and 4 coats of General Clear.

This is a small box that I made for a friend who lives in Portugal that i will be visiting. The Birdseye Maple I choose for the top and bottom have marks that resemble seagulls. It really makes a project special when you can find something in the wood that give you project special meaning or character. In the center of the box is Makore with has a wave like grain pattern. I sanded the box down to 320 grit and finished it with three coats of General Clear Coat. Living on the east coast of the United States and Portugal on the west coast of Europe separated by the Atlantic ocean the seagull on the box give this project and gift a little special meaning.

This was a great project! There was a lot of research into the making of a guitar which added to the fun. The cigar box is made of cedar and the neck is fretted and made of walnut. I used General clear coat as a finish sanded down to 320.Learning about the history of these guitars and build one seams to be addictive. Before I was finished with this one I was looking for cigar boxes to build the next cbg. Now to find the time to learn how to play.
