This is a first on more than one aspect. My first project blog and first serious scroll saw project. I bought my scroll saw about 3 years ago and hadn’t used it until a few days ago. It’s a Grizzly model and works fairly well for its price point. But anyways, just wanted to capture the build process on this elaborate fretwork for my current level of woodworking. Hope you follow along.

This is on 1/4” ply and this is one of any holes I need to saw out. Hopefully I can get a few done everyday when I have the time. As a Xmas gift for my wife, I hope I can pull this off!!

Question, why two holes per cut? Also, if you stack at least two, it is easier to cut and you get double.

With my inexperience using a scroll saw, I wanted as much room to move around as I could get. Never thought of doubling it up. I’ll keep that in mind next time.

Getting only 20 minutes or so in the shop at one time, it’s slow going on the project. But so far it looks alright. Less than 100 holes to scroll out now!!

Moving right along… This scroll saw business is getting more comfortable. There might actually be an end in sight! My hat’s off to those that make the elaborate clocks and houses. So, here it is so far

On an unrelated note, I needed a day away from scrolling so I put one of these together for my wife. It’s a collection of the wine we’ve had over the past year or so. I think I may venture down that road for family Xmas gifts this year. Super simple to make.

Okay….This has taken a lot longer than expected but I have finally made some progress. Need to get it done by Xmas!!

I also had to make a quick jig to get the padauk a perfect circle. Took many spins around the table to get it round but it worked in a pinch.
