My day job is IT. In 1990 I founded a software development company with a fellow geek and we have been doing all sorts of things ever since, we just haven't hit it big like Bill Gates.
We wrote the software (XcAuction www.xcauction.com) and host the site for the Panama Canal which they use to auction off transit slots when there is high demand. A record $130,000 USD was paid for the privilege of using the canal by a BP tanker on top of an already steep $220,000 USD toll. Think about that the next time you have to cough up a couple of dollars to get over that bridge. If you are lucky enough to have kids, paricularly teen-age girls and have Deb Shop in the mall near you, my team and I architected and wrote the Point of Sale system they use.
I use wood working and other creative activities to allow me to decompress from my day job.
Since buying my first house in 2000, most of my woodworking has been focused on finish carpentry such as installing crown moulding, hardwood floors and framing doorways. In the tailend of 2007, with my wife's blessing I started equipping my shop with more equipment and hope to start working on some serious furniture project. At the beginning of 2008, I picked up 550 bf of some fantastic looking cherry from which I hope to build the furniture of my dream office.
