Build A Krenov Style Cabinet On Stand Pt.1

Hello Everyone,
Just uploaded a new video to YouTube. In this video I start my annual show project. This year I am building a Krenov style cabinet on stand. This projects will have some firsts for me. I will be veneering using a vacuum bag. Should be interesting to see how it comes along. Check it out. I have posted a link down below. Don't forget to Subscribe while you're there so you will be notified when a new part is uploaded. Thanks.

I just did my first vacuum veneer 2 days ago. worked great, I had never worked with burl veneer before so I learned a lot and it makes getting it laid flat much easier. One mistake I made was not to seal the veneer before adding finish. I used a two part because I wanted a flat high gloss finish and you cannot get all the bubbles out. Tiny bubbles came up into the finish long after my ability to remove them was useful, oh well I learned a lesson and it was just a practice piece.

Thanks for the tip on sealing the veneer before finishing. I will be sealing it with shellac before I apply the finish.

Man that thing is looking great! I love seeing how projects look with the finish on!

Shellac is the way to go for the interior. You don't want to leave it unfinished, as moisture will absorb unevenly between the inside and outside, and could warp the case. Also, the shellac is odorless after it cures, so it won't smell!

By the way, I watched that Notre Dame/Clemson game Saturday night-and man what a deluge! 3" per hour of rain-I've never seen a football game played in a monsoon like that!

She turned out great!

Nice fix with the miniature crown moulding, which I think adds a nice accent to the interior.

Good luck at the show - and take your camera, so we can see it and the competition.

Now go celebrate with a nice glass of Scotch!
