2 Car garage. Messy. Working on storage and organization now.

Most of my equipment is on wheels so I can move it to the side so I can park a car in the garage as well. The exception is my jointer, which is big and heavy… I need to get a mobile base for it still.

The pictures show everything crammed together.

Wasmithee, I am looking forward to taking a tour of your shop when you get an opportunity to post pictures of it.

All of our shops are “messy” at one time or another. I have a habit of using any horizontal space for storing my off cuts and hand tools, especially when I am into a build. Of course, this means that the assembly table can’t be used to assemble the project unless it gets cleaned off. My wife, who has a penchant for keeping things neat and orderly, will often “comment” on the condition of my shop and, as a way to get me to clean up, volunteers to “help” me. Her idea of orderly is to put my hand tools in the closest drawer/cabinet that has space in it. It becomes an adventure to simply find out where she has put them the next time I need to use the tool. But her biggest suggestion is to clean up by tossing all those pieces of wood that are nothing but clutter. Usually I thank her for her help but gracefully decline and clean it up myself.

You could not have articulated what goes on in my shop and with my wife more accurately if you had witnessed it in person! Like you I have a compulsive cleaning type of spouse and she indeed cleans my shop often whether I like it or not. Sometimes I spend more time trying to find a tool then actually working because it got put away so well… In fact I have many duplicate tools now since it is often easier to buy a replacement than to go through storage boxes on the upper shelves of the shop trying to locate a $5 tool she so kindly put away for me.

I will post pictures in the future. I haven’t taken any yet.

I just built a lumber cart based off of the one in ShopNotes #55 pg 24. ”Roll-Around Store-All for lumber & plywood.”. I will post it as a project with some pictures soon.
