Had this idea for a Suiseki with a cloud and came up with this rock from a
yard sale and a piece of Paduak and a piece of Walnut I shaped with
files and a Shinto rasp.

Sealed with a couple coats of Shellac and the project is finished.

It was a fun project and I’ll build another one from another rock from
the same yard sale.

Red rock + Samba 4/4 from exoticwoods2000 (ebay) and some Padauk legs
made this Suiseki a fun project.

The rock is a press fit into the mortise and I like the way it turned out.

The Samba was too light so I put some Padauk dust from the leg making session
and rubbed it into the open pores. Added some shellac, and then Minwax
wipe on Poly.

Two rocks made with walnut and maple, shaped with a Shinto rasp and some files. Bored 1/4” holes for
brass pins in each rock. I forgot the name of the center wood, but it was there so I used it.

The flat part of the stone was shaped with a 1200 DMT honing plate and
it was done quicker than I thought possible.

One must rotate the rocks to find the balance point, otherwise it tips over.

It was a fun build and it’s sealed with shellac.
Thanks for the inspiration Hybrid!
PI are squared was made from maple and walnut and it’s a great way
to use up some off fall from other projects.
Thanks to all LumberJocks for their friendly advice on joinery, finishing,
and the sharing of their experiences and ideas, all of which were used
to make these projects!

Both have Zebra wood mallet heads and are sporting Canary wood
handles. I’ve been saving these exotics for a special occasion and was
happy to use them.

The leather capped ends with the brass center pin went to Rev. Russ, while
the one with the “A” in the center went to fellow LJer across the pond known
as Brit, aka Andy.

Thanks for all who participated and organized this great idea.

The pins that hold the blade kept pulling out so I drill some holes and put some brass rods through them, hence the second upside down picture. I used fishing line instead of twine and it seems to work well.
Parts and or kits can be purchased at Gramercy.
Thanks for looking.
