Eric, It sounds like you are in the fun stage- building jigs and shop furniture while deciding how to arrange your tools. We would enjoy seeing pictures of your shop as it begins to take shape.

I just realized that I should be doing that. Unfortunately, I won’t have any pics of the pre-tearout. But I can get pics of the piles of debris.

You are right the whole thing is fun but, to tell the truth, I enjoy making shop cabinetry far more than painting, running conduit or drywalling. :)

I can see a lot of potential in there. Bummer about the furnace and hot water heater taking up valuable shop space but I guess they do have to go somewhere. :) But you do have a nice start on your shop space. Keep us posted as you add to the space. Being able to watch a shop develop is always enjoyable to see.

The only painting will be some drylok. Not that the basement is wet, but the cinderblock is too dark as it is, so I have to paint it anyway to lighten it up. May as well be hydraulic paint.

No drywall. If anything, I’ll slap up some OSB and paint it. It comes down easy to get access behind it, and you don’t have to hunt for studs to hang cabinets.

Conduit is 2nd nature to me. I got thru high school and college as an electrician.

I will probably slap some furring strips up and some rigid foam just to keep SOME heat in there in the winter. At least on the one exterior wall.

More work tomorrow. I gotta scrub the walls with concrete etching solution, get all the effluoresence off so I can paint. Floor too.

I suspect your girlfriend is behind you for the same reason my wife is behind me – she has a list of projects a mile long for you! :)

You have the chance to build a real fine shop there. Take your time and do it right the first time…..the end rewards will far out weigh the time spent.

If only I knew exactly what that real fine shop should look like. Right now, the plan is lots of mobility.

Once I get the space prepped, i’ll get the machines set up, which includes building mobile bases etc for things like the chop saw and planer. Then a workbench, or at least an assembly table.

As I start to build things, I figure my particular needs will come out.

@Derek: To be honest, no. She really just supports everything I’m interested in. But as for a “honeydo” list – We both have a huge list. New house and all, but it’s not in NEED of anything woodworking oriented. Everything will be a for pleasure build. The stuff that NEEDS to be done here is in the form of yard work, landscaping, etc. Not that I mind any of it. To be honest, woodworking solves my need to build stuff, when I don’t HAVE to build stuff.
