« Part 3: Onward and upward! Part 4 of Workshop 2016 series Part 5: Feelin the flow »

These past few months have disappeared beneath me. I’ve learned some new skills in the shop and have been cranking out projects but all of the rest of my life has become more demanding of my time. Ironically my daughter has saved my woodworking hobby in that she has become more and more eager to help me with projects even at the age of four. So, the times that me and her do have together she actively asks what I’m working on and what I have planned next. I’m blessed by her and my girlfriend who encourages my woodworking outlet in ever possible way.

Just as small a project as this is it was something my daughter needed and could physically help me do.

She has even begun taking responsibility in the shop by cleaning after we are done for the day…and yes she has her own set of safety gear (goggles, gloves, and ear protectors) besides knowing the rules of what to touch and when.

Just as I love impressing my girlfriend with new pieces for the house I have found another joy in sharing my skills with my daughter too.

Take all the time you can with your Daughter in the Shop as well as out of the shop. But that time in the shop will be priceless as time goes on even if she doesn’t stick with it for long.

Savor every minute. She’ll be out on her own in a very short time
