I wanted to share a bit of my father’s day weekend here. It involved time and play with both kids outside and in the garage shop. My wife and I even had some quiet time together…..all in all a super weekend.
My son’s mosquito level baseball team had a family day fun game on Saturday. My son is going up to bat in the photo.
My daughter played second base with me and she was able to get a hit and make it home…not bad for a girl who has not played in two seasons.
Sunday I got some time in the garage to get working on replacing their TV trays for Friday movie nights.
The metal piece of junk is the inspiration and starting point.
I had some hardboard and let the kids pick their surface and edging. My son came up with the three sided design and the leather front edge. He is left handed so his cup hole goes left and her’s on the right.
His is a cow leather and will have Teak edging with Cocobolo splines (he has expensive wood tastes!) and her’s is a fine pig leather with Douglas Fir edges. Still have to sort out legs and supports.
I will do a project post if they turn out ok.
We also started on a “fun” guitar for my son. He has been hounding me to make one with/for him for over a year. He is too young yet as I want him to do the lion’s share of the work. So, the idea is to make a cool fake guitar.
This is again hardboard he is shaping out for the body and has chosen a maple neck, tigerwood head and purpleheart frets…again with the expensive tastes. It is all scrap wood have saved from other things so no big expense outlay.
Here are photos of book marks in the making. Using leather scraps, cork matting and Gorilla glue. The kids love these and it is so simple.
Lastly is the inside of her father’s Day card from school. Spelling errors and all it touches my heart
Hope all you gents had as good a weekend as I did!
