The Journey Begins

Blog entry by trifern posted 448 days ago 531 reads 0 times favorited 26 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I just received news last night that I have been accepted into the “Fall into the Arts” show to be held in early October. I am flattered to be included in a juried art show. I have never shown or sold my work before. I have donated pieces for charity auctions and given away pieces as gifts.

I need help from my fellow Lumberjocks. I need to select 2 pieces to be entered for judging. Any suggestions on which of my pieces might show best would be greatly appreciated. I also welcome all suggestions on booth set-up or any other tips for the big day. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Wow Joe, thats great. That black bowl I would definately show, and that last big one you made that was about 11 inches across and 5” high. That was beautiful. I’ll take another look at all your bowls, maybe I’ll change my mind you’ve made so many great looking bowls.

Wow! Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

So many nice pieces that’s it hard to choose but if I was forced to make a decision on only two I’d choose Tree Wart and Final Exam.

Inside Rhapsody and Blissful Knot (though you might have a problem getting it away from your niece) would be my next choices.

Once again, congrats! Looking forward to hearing and seeing how this unfolds. Good luck!

I changed my mind you have to put blood brother in there if you still have it. I like the first black bowl better than the second. I’m telling you after looking through your gallery I’m not a bit suprised someone didn’t want to show them. They are all excellent turnings Joe, I don’t even feel qualified to help you out. Just my humble support. Best of Luck my friend. God Bless.

ooooh, CONGRATULATIONS!! that is awesome.

I would definitely put Tree Wart to show as it has a very figured wood, AND it has the natural edges as well – very unique and eye catching.

Now as for setting up a stand – I saw someone once setup a stand for small boxes – they had a showing of the wood in the steps from it being natural wood (blanks) to it being milled for work, and so on and so forth – it wasn’t much, but it gave you the idea of what goes on to create those end products – pretty cool, and adds an edge of interest to the booth and the items you’re presenting by “showing their past”...

Tree Wart, Blissful Knot.

Put everything else you can still get your hands on in the booth. Pictures of the stuff you can’t.
Good luck (though I doubt you’ll need luck),

All your work is awesome, but the 2 that just jump out at me is Circle of life (enclude the story) and Blood Brother.

Wow, Joe! Congratulations!

The problem I have is that I can’t narrow all your work down to just two favorites… I like’em ALL!

That is great news, I wish you great success.

I really like all your posted projects and I think “Tiger and Blood Brother” are the two that I like best, but you’ve got such a range of products that it is really hard to recommend which ones you should show…

Joe, they’re all such great pieces I won’t be surprised if they all get mentioned here. For showing, I like Storm Front, Tree Wart, Tiger Caspi.

Good luck…and let us know how this unfolds.

Wow Joe, Congrats.
I don’t remember ever seeing anything you posted that couldn’t be in a judged contest. But my favorites might be the spalted maple piece you posted last and Storm Front. Then again either Tigre Caspi or Bloodwood piece or Drifter or A Flame, etc, etc, etc,
They are all winners.
Good luck, but no gettin “upitty” on us.

Excellent !!

I like storm front and blood brother.

Another tip – do some research into the folks who are doing the actual judging. See if you can find out what they like and pick the appropriate piece. Also include a little story with each piece . . . it will help people connect.

I posted congrats already… unfortunately on another project post… so let me say again, CONGRATULATIONS!

You definitely deserve it… you’re a true artist and I’ve said it before, will say it again, you’ve got an incredible talent at being able to see the beauty inside a piece of wood, and bring it out for all of us to see what you saw.

My vote? Stormfront and Circle of Life.

I ended up choosing Orange Swirl and Inside Rhapsody. I almost choose B.O. It has an odd story, but makes a nice wall hanging. I am just excited about be in the show and being able to share my work. Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

Just a quick update. I just received notice this afternoon that Inside Rhapsody will be one of five images, out of 375, used as advertisements to promote the show. I am truly humbled and flattered.
