So I’ve been borrowing a miter saw and a table saw from a friend for the past few months, hoping to use them to kick-start my furniture-making endeavors. I haven’t gotten any traction in that regard, and now my friend (rightly) wants his tools back. I think that the woodworking bug has bit me hard, because now without really any possibility of working with wood, I feel, well… purposeless. So now it’s to Craig’s List to see if I can get any cheap tools for my workshop. Perhaps Harbor Freight, too, in the absence of better options.

Be sure to check Wood Magazine each issue for HF coupons.
I also have the 12 inch sliding miter saw. After buying a better blsde it is performing great. Just a thought or two for you to consider

I would say take the cheapest route, but carefully. Never buy cheap tools merely because they are cheap. Look at what they can do and see if they fit your tolerances and requirements. If you prefer to go with power tools, a circular saw with straight edge guides and simple fixtures can easily duplicate the work of a tablesaw and miter saw. If you are not adverse to hand tools, get a couple handsaws, a plane, and make a shooting board.

Wait it out until you find the tools you want at the price you can pay.

@jkc0721 – I have the HF 12 inch Sliding Miter Saw. I replaced the blade with one Lowes sells – CMT Orange ITK 96 tooth. It works great. Makes smooth cross cuts. Last few days, I have been cutting 2×4 lumber two at a time
