A friend of mine (not a woodwork) asked if I would help him move some things in his deceased father’s garage. We were moving stuff into a dumpster when I spied this bench in the corner buried in boxes and other junk. I said if he planned on selling it in his upcoming yard sale I wanted first crack at it. He assured me I would be alerted IF he in fact was going to sell it.
The next day he called and said to get some help and a Benjamin and come get the bench. Here it is and some of the other stuff he tossed into my truck.

Overall I am pretty stoked about my new bench as this is what I have been working on.

That’s a heck of a deal, certainly looks like a well earned improvement.

And quite the nice piece of maple on the front of that bench. Score! I see some benchdog making in your near future. Enjoy.

Congratulations on your exceptional find Jack. That looks like a wonderful bench. What an upgrade from what you were using before, and I thought my repurposed office desk was a crap workbench, you’ve been suffering far worse than me!

Yeah, you do suck!

And I have the twin to that Zyliss vise, bought it at a state fair in Florida about 35 years ago!

... and I mean that in the very best way.
Congrats, what a great score.
With this bench and a ShopSmith, the sky’s the limit.

I still remember the zyliss vise “infomercial”. Was a forerunner in that form of advertising of DIY tools.

Way to go Jack! No good deed goes unpunished. You deserve to have a great bench like that. Now go enjoy it.
