In my original post, I asked for opinions regarding the Rigid EB4424 vs. Jet JBOS-5.
I just met a guy that bought a storage box containing a Grizzley G1071. It was purchased in 2006 by a new company that folded a year later. I can get it for $225. I know it is a great deal. My shop is in my basement and moving my machines into it has proven to be a life-threatening experience (bulkhead stairs caved in on the last one).

What do you think, “Once more into the breach” or go with the original choices? What does this monster get me (aside from that warm, manly feeling you get from owning heavy machinery)?

Well it isn’t exactly a very heavy machine, at less than 300 pounds, but it you are worried about it you could remove the table and possibly the motor to significantly reduce the weight.

What you get is a significantly more powerful OSS with larger spindles than the Ridgid and Jet and all the small spindles of the Jet. If you have the room it seems to be a no brainer for roughly the price of the Ridgid but it doesn’t have an edge sander. The G1071 does have the reputation of locking in the larger (3 and 4”) spindles and has been documented on Youtube.

For me I would get the 1071 assuming it is complete and in operational condition but it does take up 4 ft^2 of floor space.

Have your say...
