Since most are made in China or Taiwan, I’d assume you could get a new one easier than from the USA. Go to http://www.alibaba.com to connect to an Asian source. They have quite a selection of band saws and break the sources down to the country of origin. I don’t know what the quality is, but at least they are willing to sell One Piece and shipping should be reasonable since you are close by. Any other suggestions guys? -- "They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." ~ Edgar Allan Poe |

Look out for an old one. I really love mine. Depends on what you desire really. I have an old 18” Oliver from 1923. The older ones are simple, SOLID, easy to work on, smooth and quiet, and made in the USA. It took me a long time to find mine, but they come up now and then. Talk to the guys on www.owwm.com, they can give you a lot of advice on machinery. Join there online forum, and just ask some questions. My advice is buy an older used machine in good condition. I really am a big proponent of good quality equipment. The older used stuff is going cheap nowdays. With a little TLC its way better than the new stuff. Look for brands like Walker-Turner, old Delta, Oliver, Yates, Davis and Wells. Just be patient, there out there. |
