Today I got a small piece of ebony to make some decorative plugs but the entire board is covered in a wax. What is the easiest way to remove this? Thanks.

Sorry to say but use a scraper to remove all that you can and if you have to after that used a little of your household floor stripper… Manual labor, dang where’s the machines when you need them? ; )

Ahh…so it isn’t just my piece of ebony covered in wax. I haven’t gotten around to taking it off yet but it scraped pretty easy with my fingernail so I suspect I’ll use a paint scraper or old plane blade then some liquid cleaner on a rag.

What is it for anyway? (edit…the wax I mean.)

Good luck…if you find a trick, let us know.

Greg

You should scrape first, but I’ve been told mineral spirits will take off the rest.

ghazard – the wax seals the wood to prevent cracking
