So I have this stand, and love it:

Problem I am having is because it’s on a stand, I cannot use stop blocks easily. My buddy has his saw on a bench with some homemade fence (not sure if its called that on a miter saw) extensions that the wood can lay on and butt up to. He then can clamp his stop block to it. I cannot do this unless my piece I’m cutting is under 18” or so.

I was thinking of building a little fence extension and having a vertical piece of wood or steel that would slide into the slot that the miter saw stand extensions fit into. Then I could take them out when I store the stand.

Does what I propose make sense?

I have a bench mounted miter saw as your friend does. When I want an extra 23” I have an extension that uses a simple mechanical catch to hold it to the fence keeping it lined up. But it has no back, only a flat bottom. You could use a similiar method but with a back on the extension. Below are 3 pics, hope this provides some inspiration.
