Topic tags/keywords: hand tool

Bought 6 boxes of hand tools and came across this. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

As they would say on “Car Talk”, you’ve stumped this chump. More pics from several angles please.

It’s a jig to hold a file for jointing the teeth of a hand saw.

It is specifically used for filing crosscut saws.

BoardCop-
In the “Joys of Rust Hunting” post #697 in the forth photo at the lower left hand corner there are a few different jointers pictured. ToddJB above gets the use right. It can be used for jointing saws (both x-cut and rip) and scraper blades. I’ve even heard of them being used for ice skates. Used with a file it gives an edge that is 90 degrees to the face of a tool.

Yep, not limited to use on crosscuts only.

Another type of the same tool is referred to as a Clamshell Jointer.

Here’s some pics. I’ve got more but they’re taking a while to upload. I need to find some parts for a couple of Stanley’s

Looks like gravity is a problem with where you live, no need for tool holders, just put the tools down on the wall or ceiling and that’s where that stay, pretty cool.
