Topic tags/keywords: chat awareness

A few thoughts,

Open the chat rooms 24×7, it would be nice to have

Since you can turn the green light “glow” on in “Online” why not add that on-line awareness in the rest of the system. For instance, if I am in a forum (or home page or project page) reading, it would be nice to see other that are there also reading the same blog in case we wanted to talk about the project live. Even if we didn’t start a chat it would add to the sense of community.

I like that second idea.
I always go to “ONLINE” to see who’s around but having it right there in the page sounds good too.

I’m personally still not sold on the chat idea—we’d lose so much of the casual banter, I think.. .

Not to mention how much shop time we would loose if there was live chat! Can you imagine talking about a project you are doing for three hours, and then find out all your work time is gone?

I’m an IRC junkie from the early 90’s. A live chat would be great. Come and go as you please, trade a few banters, save the woodworking talk for the forums. As much as the idle banter (that I love) does contribute to many posts, it does also contribute clutter for the casual site visitor. I like the chat idea. However, opinions are like toe nails.
