I am making a sleigh bed and I was looking for a little advice on how to attach the side rails to the head and foot board. I ve seen the brackets that Rockler sells, but has anyone used or done anything differently.

Mortise the head and footboard legs and put a tennon on each end of the side rails, then use threaded cross dowels in the side rails and bed bolts through the head board legs and the foot board legs. Recess the bolt heads and cover them with a pendant. Instead of a mortise and tennon you could also use dowels in the side rails for alignment. These are only some of the ways that are available to use.

I have used these successfully. They are easy to install and are easy for set up and take down.
