Welcome Sandy. Fine Woodworking #188 (Winter 2006/2007). They tested these: Bridgewood OVS-5 They rated the Rigid as Best Overall and Best Value, at $200 “street price” but I’d encourage you to read the article to see what they tested for and general commentary. If you don’t subscribe, you might be able to find the magazine at your library, or you can access it online a price. -- Dave J. Oakdale, MN |

That article came out right after I bought a Delta Boss. The Delta is a good machine but now I think I would have bought the Rigid. The price is about the same and you get that little belt sander. -- Thos. Angle |

Sandy, For quite a while I did not have an OSS. I just used a sanding drum on the Drill Press. Once I tried the a sander with the oscillating action, I would never go back. I have the Rigid and I’m very happy with it. For the price it’s hard to beat – a couple of the advantages of the Rigid are: 1) you get the belt attachment for so that you can do more sanding operarions I’m not sure how it would hold up in a heavy use/production setting, but for the hobbiest woodworker, it’s more than adequate. For that matter, as I recall, it does have a lifetime warranty so it may be just fine for heavier use because it’s covered. -- Mark, Webster New York, Visit my website at http://thecraftsmanspath.com |

I love our Rigid… kinda multi-purposed and flexible re: work space, due to the tilting table. I haven’t found any “I wish it did this..” thoughts. -- ~ Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

I keep thinking about buying one because of the tilting table. -- We must guard our enthusiasm as we would our life - James Krenov |

I have this one and keep it inside my workbench when I’m not using it. It would be nice if it had the tilt feature, but so far, I haven’t needed it. I am grateful to have ANY kind of spindle sander after never having one for a long time.

I’ve got the Rigid. Two of my friends have the Rigid. I’ve also got a Delta 6×48 bench sander. While I use both I seem to use the Rigid more often, both as a belt sander and a spindle sander. I particularly like the ease of switching between belt and spindle and the bushings that fit the various spindles to support the piece being sanded. When turning pens I put the 90 degree post on the belt sander to make sure I get trued ends on the tubes -- No piece is cut too short. It was meant for a smaller project. |

I’ve got the Roybi Spindle sander. it works great., But if I were to buy one now. i’d go with the Ridgid. -- What happens in the workshop stays in the workshop. No wait that doesn't sound right. Karson Southern Delaware karson_morrison@bigfoot.com † |
