Topic tags/keywords: oak resource

There is a sawmill not far from me called The Bullwood Project which I have wanted to visit for ages now. Well, last night was the night I would go in and have a LOOK at what he has and get some idea of pricing.

£50 later and this is what I came away with! (The top one, not both!)

This slice of heaven is what I came away with! It is oak, and about 2” thick, with a nominal width of around 22” and a length of 72”. I have a few ideas of what I would do with it, but want to make sure before ruining it. I think it will end up as some live edge shelves and a media cabinet for the lounge. Thing is, I’ve not told my wife yet, so sshhhh, no telling, okay?!

He also has these

They are yew (I think) and beautiful. They must be about 10’ long with amazing figure. He wants £120 for the 2 though, so not so sure about them. I think I could make a great mirror frame with them, which is what I originally went in to have a look for!

Any way, just though I’d share the joy,

Garry

Ha! Another case of materials in search of a project. I have sure as hell been there and done that. It IS a gorgeous piece. When you finally do make something out of it, please post it so we can see the finished product.

If your going to make a mirror out of the yew, you could try a river mirror. I saw a few from Caryn Moberly that looked great.

I’ll definitely post the result, whatever and whenever that might be!

Those mirrors look really great. I think I’m sold on that! Lucky it’s payday!

Cheers guys,

It would make a fantastic bench for your entry.

That went through my mind Art. My entrance hall is quite small though, and I want to make the most of the piece. I need to try and work it all out.

Thanks,
Garry
