Hi Jocks, This is MRod in Henderson (Denver), Colorado. I wanted to know if anyone that lives along the Virginia to Utah i-64 to i-70 corridor wants to get in on an Auction from the irsauctions folks for Lumber. I love good deals on lumber and I feel with 3 other trusted LJ’s pooling our cash together we can all get a good deal. The idea: Pool our cash together, but NOT until we win and ONLY then as a cashier’s check to the IRS Auctions, Inc. auctioneer. Benefit: We can get some good amount of hardwood, have it shipped and equitably divide the shipping cost. Shipping: Shipping companies like to drop off on highway routes rather than traveling through suburbs to get to their destination. We can meet these folks at designated areas along i-64 and i-70 for a MUCH cheaper rate. See the Google map below of the i-64 to i-70 corridor to see what I am talking about. This is the link to the auction. The individual auctions offer from 600 bd to 2000 bd of wood each. Wood types: Birch, Ash, Cherry, White Oak, Maple, Poplar, Walnut, White Pine. Please reply to me if you are interested. I am probably looking at contributing $400 MAX. I don’t care what type, except I do not want to bid on Poplar or Birch, flexible on White Oak. You can call me too if you like (303) 487-3887, email romowest@gmail.com, or email me here.

Okay here are the numbers: Online excel sheet ->>> http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tJ87kzYZ9nxxTdE8z8YbwhQ&single=true&gid=0&output=html In short I believe with 4 people contributing $375 each we would pay bet. .75 cents and $1.50 per board feet depending on how many bf we win. The range being 2,000 bf at the .75 cents side and 1,000 bf at the $1.50 side. I’ll email you to get a conformation that you are still good to commit. IF anyone else wants to join in just holllar! -- MRod, Henderson, Colorado by way of Brooklyn! |

Good question Roper! Okay, next steps: I’ve researched this a bit and then also spoke with SwedishIron above (Scott) on the phone. He and I are partial to either Cherry OR poplar/or/birch. I believe we need to focus on one bid as if I bid on multiple items and both items go up to 600-700 then I am on the hook for both – UGH. I know we are all chipping in, but in the end I am liable for the bid amount. So question to : A) Should I focus on a bid on Cherry up to $800 and then pay up to $1000 for shipping? With fees ($125) this would put us at approximately $375 each. The downside here is that we would get less BF, the plus side here is that we would get CHERRY!!! OR B) Should I bid on Birch or Poplar $600 and then pay up to $800 for shipping plus fees – $85 ??? This would put us at approximately $285 pperson. The downside here is that we get poplar, the upside as SwedishIron pointed out to me, “snag a pallet of birch or poplar since I know they will go super cheap.. not popular at all… both are great for painted furniture/secondary woods.” VOTE: So unless anyone else has a different ideas, I am up for A or B. Please respond which way you want to COMMIT here? You can call me too if you like (303) 487-3887. Thanks, -- MRod, Henderson, Colorado by way of Brooklyn! |

Hi folks, Our pal SwedishIron (Scott) looked around the irsauction.com site for other auctions with cherry and found one on August 27th from Drexel Heritage Furniture – Morgantown, NC. This is much less board feet, although as Scott mentioned to me this cherry is clear instead of common #1. Also the sizes are different. Instead of long planks 120” to 144” at 4/4 thickness (Vaughan auction) this Drexel cherry is 70” in length and 6 ” wide, 5/4 thick. Finally the shipping would also be less as it is of lower quantity. Which one is this a better deal – please review and advise? $285 EACH x 5 people $250 EACH x 5 people Review my details here – http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tJ87kzYZ9nxxTdE8z8YbwhQ&output=html Thanks, -- MRod, Henderson, Colorado by way of Brooklyn! |

I have been looking at IRS as well. I didnt see in any of the above posts, maybe i missed it, the fee and scheduling that would have to be arranged for shipping. As I understand it you have to arange for shipping or pick the material yourself and IRS charges for loading. Most of the lots I saw the fee was nominal, $25, but larger lots were around $200. I havent done a quote yet with a shipper but I am guessing $500-$1000 for shipping. Almost doesnt seem worth it. -- My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist....medic20447@gmail.com |

Mrod: I live in Thornton, CO and would be interested in obtaining some Mahogany, Walnut or Birch or Poplar. I really only need abour 80 bf of these. I am building a rowing shell using the “cedar strip canoe” approach and will be using 4 different colored woods for it. It’s 22 feet long & 2 feet wide, so it’s not going to take very much of each. Since I am unemployed, I don’t have too much to donate to the auction, but I’m sure that I could manage about $100. Please let me know. Brian in Thornton -- Brian in Denver |

sorry Brian, i don’t think this is going to happen. I need $250 to 325 by 5 people and i don’t have it, so we will have to look at other opportunities in the future. -- MRod, Henderson, Colorado by way of Brooklyn! |
