Topic tags/keywords: reclaimed barn wormy chestnut oak

Hey guys, I have been reading Lumberjocks for a long time but only now had a reason to sign up. I have 3 old tobacco barns in northeast Tennessee that need to come down. 1 of them is wormy chestnut, and I believe the other 2 are oak, but I’m not 100% certain. They were probably built in the 50’s or earlier.

I am looking for somebody who will come in and tear them down for the lumber. I will give somebody a great deal if they will do all the demolition and clean up. My goal is to make enough money to put up a metal building to keep the tractor and some other stuff in.

I know of a few companies that specialize in just this, but I thought I’d give you guys first crack. If you would like more details just shoot me a PM.

If you find someone, make sure you have them sign a contract with an injury disclaimerto protect you if they get hurt. You may have to get some legal advice for your own protection.

cylon58, I would also watch out for someone who cherry-picks the good wood and leaves all the mess for you to clean up. Once he’s gone, you’ll never get him back to clean up. I would make the price inclusive of clean-up and then refund him that money if he cleans it to your satisfaction. If he doesn’t, you’ll have his money to clean up the mess.

I can’t recall his name , but there is a company in Lewisburg WV who specializes in barnwood and old log houses. they are always looking for barns and such to salvage. They have TV show called BARNWOOD BUILDERS on one of the cable channels. I hope this bit of info helps you out.

I PM’d you, got your email, and we have been discussing this. I also sent an email to the other guy. One or both of you may or may not be interested. I’m just looking for somebody to take care of this. If you’re not interested after you see the pics maybe he will be. It’s not the type of work I can expect to speak to one person about and be done with it. It’s hard to find somebody to do this, so I’m just hitting it from every angle possible.

I meant no offense. I just wanted to thank Mudflap for the info and pursue all leads I could.

Have your say...
