I haven’t worked with oak much at all, but I have a comission for a dining table in red oak. I found 6/4 red oak (not quarter sawn) for $1.40 a bft. Seems like a great price… Should I buy up all they have?

That’s pretty good, I pay $1.50/bdft. for rough and dry 4/4 red oak.

I’d snag all I could for that price. It seems now days that oak is selling cheaper than Maple, and Walnut has gone through the roof….I sure wouldn’t balk on that deal..

Yeah, I bought it all. And that was $1.40 surfaced and straight lined

Nice haul! I’d have bought a bunch if this was anywhere near me.

Yes, yes, and yes. I sell it for 3x that amount. But mine is kiln dried to 8% and planed.

I have been paying around 4.40bf for red oak, straight lined and planed 2 sides. Would prefer to buy it rough, but I am pretty secluded as far as lumber stores go.
