I have a Cherry burl, I have cut it down to just the burl and painted the ends leaving 2-4” of tree attached. Would it be better to cut it into turning blanks now (2×2x12 etc.) If so what is the benefit? The big question is how do you guys cut them down to size? Chainsaw table saw?

Depends on what you want to make and size of the burl! Would be nice if saw a picture before responding, I use chain saw or ban saw to cut my bowl & spindle blanks. Might even just stick something on the lathe and go at it!
