If you thought I had given up LJ’s, no such luck. I was off with the wife & a couple of friends to the Aussie outback, inland Queensland to be more to the point.
If you ever get a chance don’t miss it. We did 6,408kms (3,982miles) in 17 days. would have spent longer but needed to get back to Sydney.
Here are a few pics of the journey

Grumpy those photo’s are absolutely incredible.

But tell me, for that first one…

Did they make you go back and pick up all that string?

Thanks for the tour Grumpy!

That’s about as close as we’ll ever get to the outback.

Quixote, the string is bio-degradeable, it self disolves. LOL

Dan, no snakes, wrong time of year, they prefer the heat. Heaps of cane toads though. Went out the back of the motel at Karumba with a torch, they were everywhere. The locals use golf clubs to keep the numbers down. Maybe thats why greg Norman was a good golfer. LOL

Looks beautiful, Grumpy! Might have to move to Australia some day, and that’s no joke either.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us my friend.

Grumpy, that was some trip!!! It looks like you averaged driving about 4 hours per day, Wow! I am sure that you completely lost track of what was going on in the real world when you were on vacation this long. It looks like you saw some interesting places and scenery that made the trip well worthwhile.

Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

Grumpy: Did I see correctly that trucks are running with 3 trailers behind. That’s not a tractor trailer, it’s a highway train. Cool pics. Thanks for posting.

Your right Bureaucrat, 3 trailers on a 51metre (167foot) road train. did see one with 4 trailers that we passed near Mt Isa, the back trailer was all over the road. In Western Australia the road trains are even longer.

Grumpy did you get your Willy Washed. That picture of the lone tree in the desert. I hope you didn’t have that as a before picture.

Looks like a great place to visit, but who would want to live there.

Karson, I thought the ‘willy Wash’ would get some attention. It’s for miners to wash the rubble to find the opal. Sounds funny though.
Your right about a good place to visit but give me home any day. One thing though the locals are very friendly.

Looks amazingly a lot like the west. Oregon allows those trailer trains, they pull triples. Looks like you had fun ;-))

great looking photos grumpy

i obviously have to get over to your side of the country some time and have a look

Bureacrat it is normal up the north of western australia for the road trains to be 5 trailers long if you encounter one my best advise is give it a very wide birth ( they might be called trains but they are not on rails in simple translation 1 foot of sideways movement for the prime mover gets magnified 5 times by the time it gets to the last trailer)

I loved outback Australia! Spent a week on a Ducati 900 riding from Brisbane to Mt Isa and up to The daintree before going home down the coast. The big horizons are stunning. Have also taken the inland route from Brisbane to Melbourne for to Philip island GP going home over the Snowys and new England tablelands. Just wish i got to the Alice but it never happened. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for looking everyone.
Hooky, we are doing a trip to WA later this year. 6 of us in a 12 seater bus. looking forward to those Margaret River wines. You are right about those road trains we passed a 4 trailer one & that was nerve wracking, all over the road.
Don, don’t leave it too long.
Kiwi, that would have been a great trip.
