Gang,

I just picked up a new mortising machine, and I wanted to remove the chuck so I could install a provided chuck extension… but I just can’t get the thing to budge.

How hard should it be? Should I force it? Is this gonna cause me trouble later in life (or in another?)

Thanks!

I’m assuming you have loosened the allen head scew that holds the chisel in and of course loosened the chuck the holds the drill part of the mortiser. Then I would say the chisel has been jambed in and stuck.

Ah! An allen head screw! Eureka! (I’m going to obfuscate my embarrassment with celebratory prose :-)

Now… if you could only identify the species of wood on my bench. I forgot what I bought!
