I’m building this flip cart and cut the two bottom shelf pieces to what I felt was the correct width to give me a straight and square assembly that would allow the flip top to be as tight to the sides as possible. In these pics I have the right side square with the top shelf but the left side is out between 1/16 to 1/8” as seen in the closeup of the square. If I rack the whole cart to the right to bring that into square then the right side goes out of square. Have I cut the shelves too narrow or too wide. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this with the spinning top that I need to keep tight together to maintain full capture of the rod in the top. It seems like if I made the shelves wider it would kick the bottom out and bring it into square but I’m also worried it would push the sides out further from the top edges. Please help. By the way this is just a dry assembly at this point.

Could the pivot bar be spreading the left and right sides?

Can you rotate the pics. That would be helpful.

Nope the pivot bar is just shy of bottoming out. I wish I knew why my photos get rotated when I post them. They are oriented correctly before I post them.

Can you add a washer (or shim) to one side or the other so the top will swivel?

I already have two nylon washers between the top and the sides. The top spins fine but as you can see from the square the sides are further out at the top than at the bottom

It looks the bottom shelves are cut too short or the plywood is warped. Can you bring it into square if remove the swivel top?
